Study aligns with the Royal Vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on citizenship and national values.

Inspired by the Royal Vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain — may God protect and preserve him — which highlight the importance of encouraging national belonging, preserving national principles, and strengthening the values of citizenship, a Master’s thesis by researcher Amina Al Balushi, a graduate of the Master’s in Media Program at Gulf University, explored the vital role of media in deepening national identity and nurturing citizenship values among Bahraini youth.

The researcher conducted her study on a random sample of 409 Bahraini university students from both public and private institutions. The results revealed a very high level of national belonging and citizenship values among Bahraini youth, reflected in their sense of pride in their country, commitment to supporting its interests, participation in national events, viewing the defense of the nation as a sacred duty, and their keenness to uphold Bahrain’s reputation both locally and internationally.

The findings also indicated that social media platforms affiliated with media institutions ranked highest in terms of followership among university youth, compared to traditional local media outlets.

Furthermore, the study confirmed a correlation between young people’s attitudes toward local media and the media’s role in strengthening their national identity and reinforcing citizenship values.

Gulf University aims to share Master’s theses with relevant national institutions as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure that these entities benefit from the recommendations and findings of academic research conducted by Bahraini scholars — contributing to the nation’s growth and advancement.
